Really Ideal – A comic by James B Wentzel

Really Ideal is a comic based in Southern California in the present day. The two main characters, Jaden and Blake, happen to be old high school friends who meet each other back in their home town a few years after college. Jaden offers to let Blake move into his own house and their conflicting attitudes about life are juxtaposed in their new living environment. A third main character, Kirsten (who will be introduced later in the comic), will find herself caught up in a strange romantic triangle with Jaden and Blake.

This comic has been a long-time dream of mine and I hope that you will find it goes just a little deeper than your average web-comic. Instead of just something that makes you laugh, I want this comic to be a social commentary on our current society. Hopefully, I will be able to effectively use humor to point out some of the things in our society that are in some drastic need of attention and maybe even get you thinking about how you can contribute and change them for the better. I plan to incorporate numerous subjects to include: relationships, family life, the media, religion, alcohol, celebrities, sex, creativity, and of course, politics. However, don’t expect to find me bashing any politicians or complaining about foreign policy. While slander can be humorous, our society needs to focus on solutions instead of blame and I believe the first place to start is with you, the public. So, turn on your brain and enjoy the comic!!
Jaden Westmorland - The Idealist

Jaden is a twenty-six-year-old English teacher who works at the same high school he attended a few years earlier. He also went to the local university where he got his teaching credentials and now he loves every minute of his job. He also has a pet named Books (an Australian sugar glider that he got when he was in college) and they both live in the house Jaden’s grandfather left him as an inheritance. Jaden has been through many painful experiences in the past but he doesn’t let that spoil his optimistic outlook and joyful spirit. Jaden also helps coach the baseball team at the high school and has other passions for reading, flying, and the occasional smoke from a wooden pipe.

Blake de Veras - The Realist

Blake is a twenty-seven-year-old who has recently moved back to his home town after getting his undergraduate and graduate degrees at USC in the field of political science. Blake decides to move in with Jaden because he thinks it is a better arrangement than living with his constantly arguing parents (who are actually divorced, but still live in the same house). He is currently searching for a job but finds that there really isn’t much he can apply his schooling towards. Blake has a strange habit of using a much bigger vocabulary than is necessary in everyday conversation and always dresses in black. He will only help you if there is something for him to gain from it and that isn’t often. Blake believes in hard drinking, one night stands, and exploiting others weaknesses.

Kirsten McAlister - The Romantic

Kirsten is a twenty-five-year-old chemistry teacher who works at the same high school as Jaden. She is originally from Colorado and was the oldest of 5 kids but decided to stay in Southern California after moving there for college. She has been trying to get Jaden to ask her out for some time but has found that Jaden is very reluctant. She is a take-charge kind of girl and won’t hesitant to beat you in any competition. She is very athletic and even played volleyball for the local university while she was there. Now, she is also the head volleyball coach at the high school and, after only one season, took the girls to a CIF championship. Although Kirsten has focused on volleyball, she is also especially gifted at snowboarding and surfing. She can be both sarcastic and serious but is the life of the party at any social setting with her whit and exceptional intelligence. As amazing as her life seems to be, inside Kirsten is secretly depressed and is haunted by the outcomes of her previous relationships. Other passions include: painting, reading old books, anything from the 1940s (especially the movies), and dancing.
